"Quality care, expertise, friendliness, and compassion are some of the top reasons I am a regular client and fan of Hometown Veterinary Care. Dr. Matt Townsend's attention to detail and wonderful “bedside manner” with my cats made it a no-brainer for me to follow him from another vet clinic to Fairfield when he started his own business. My cats are like children to me, and I am not comfortable entrusting their care to just anybody. Dr. Matt and his team of vets, supported by a group of caring vet techs, provide excellent care and guidance.
When one of my kitties, Ruby, was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, all options for her treatment were carefully laid out to me, and I opted to start with medication. Dr. Matt guided me through establishing the correct dosage for her, but eventually I thought I might like to try one of the other options he had mentioned, which entailed taking Ruby to a Boston facility and leaving her for a five-day treatment because of the radiation involved. I was, however, very apprehensive about taking the leap, but after discussions with Dr. Matt and his reassuring words, I felt confident about moving forward with the treatment, and it was successful. That particular program wasn't available at Hometown, so it was arranged, supported, and followed up seamlessly by them. Subsequently, I went through the same process with two more of my cats, experiencing the same invaluable reassurance and support each time.
Facing the decision of putting pets down can be debilitating, but I've felt less anxious and more at peace about it because Dr. Matt, accompanied by a vet tech, has visited my house on multiple occasions to give my babies “their wings.” I know being at home in familiar surroundings has made it easier on them. The compassion and loving treatment shown to each one of my pets (and to me) during these difficult visits has been deeply appreciated. Consequently, in drawing up a Trust to take care of my kitties after I am gone, I have specified Dr. Matt and Hometown Vet Care to be in charge of any decision making about my cats' health matters. That is how much trust I have in them and their caring treatment of my kitties.
Over the years, I have introduced several neighbors and friends to Hometown Veterinary Care and every one of them commented about its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The front desk staff set that tone, and it carries over to and permeates each appointment. I feel blessed to be a part of the Hometown Veterinary Care ‘family of clients.’ The choice of the word Hometown in the name of the practice was a perfect one. There is a ‘hometown feel’ that for me has provided a comfort level that is unique.
Finally, to be honest, after I retired three years ago, I thought about moving out of state just to get away from Maine winters, but one of the deterrents was my anxiety that I wouldn't be able to find a vet practice that could measure up to HVC. In my book, it is the cat's meow!"
